Pharmacist prescribing and minor ailment assessments
Not sure whether you need a doctor's appointment? Our pharmacists can assess many common health concerns and, where appropriate, prescribe treatment.
What is a minor ailment assessment?
A minor ailment is a common, short-term concern that can often be assessed safely without a visit to a clinic. The pharmacist asks about your symptoms and health history, reviews your medications and allergies, and recommends the safest next step.
What it can lead to
- Advice on self-care and over-the-counter products
- A prescription from the pharmacist, where appropriate
- Renewing or adjusting an existing prescription, where appropriate
- A referral to your doctor or another provider if you need further care
Examples of concerns
These can include allergy symptoms, mild skin conditions, heartburn, urinary symptoms, cold sores and eye irritation, among others. Whether something can be treated at the pharmacy depends on your symptoms and history, so call us and we will tell you if we can help.
What to bring
- Your Alberta personal health card
- A list of your medications, vitamins and supplements
- Your allergies and anything relevant, such as when the problem started
